frequently asked questions
ARE EXTENSIONS RIGHT FOR ME?
Most people are great candidates, it really comes down to your desired look and lifestyle. Here are two key things to consider:
1. EXTENSIONS ARE A LIFESTYLE
They’re not a wash and go kind of thing. While styling takes more effort on wash days, your looks will last longer between washes. It’s a commitment, but one that comes with major payoff if you’re ready for it!
2. YOUR CURRENT LENGTH MATTERS (A LITTLE)
If you're hoping for length, having hair that’s at least chin length on top makes blending easier. If your hair is shorter, extensions can still work beautifully, but they’ll require more daily styling and experience. If you’re not into styling or tight on time, they may not be the best fit.
IS IT GOING TO DAMAGE MY HAIR?
We get it! This is one of the most common questions, and it’s totally valid.
We’ll be with you for 2–6 hours on install day, but then we don’t see you again for several weeks, so teamwork is everything.
Our role is to assess your hair, install the extensions properly with zero unnecessary tension, and make sure everything is set up for success. Your role? Taking care of your hair at home with the guidance we provide.
Extensions can cause damage if they’re not maintained correctly, but we’re here to make sure that doesn’t happen! With the right home care, your natural hair will stay strong and continue to grow beautifully while wearing extensions.
HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
For maintenance, you’ll need to come in every 8–12 weeks for a removal and reinstall. This keeps your scalp healthy, your extensions in top shape, and your hair looking seamless.
Throughout the life of your extensions, we may refresh the color 1–3 times to keep everything blending beautifully.
With proper home care, your extension hair typically lasts 8–12 months, so you can enjoy your dream hair long-term with the right upkeep!
CAN I BRING OR BUY MY OWN HAIR?
To ensure the highest quality and results, we only install hair that’s been purchased through us. This allows us to guarantee the origin, condition, and performance of the extensions we work with, something we can’t do with outside hair.
We’ve invested in top-tier education and products to give you the very best, and we simply can’t stand behind hair we didn’t source ourselves.
Already wearing hand-tied extensions? We’re happy to offer a complimentary in-person assessment to see if a transition is possible. This allows us to check the condition of your current hair and determine the best next steps for you.
WHAT ABOUT STYLING THEM?
You can treat your extensions just like your natural hair! Wash, blow-dry, straighten, curl, braid, or style them any way you like!
Every extension guest receives a detailed care guide plus our favorite home care products, but here are a few key tips:
1. Brush your extensions morning, night, and before showers to prevent tangles. Use Goldie Locks® serum on the ends daily for softness and shine.
2. Always use professional, extension-safe products. We recommend and use Goldie Locks® exclusively to protect your investment.
3. Keep heat tools on low to medium settings to avoid damage.
WHAT ABOUT SWIMMING AND THE SUN?
Swimming can shorten the lifespan of your extensions. Salt, chlorine, and minerals dry out the hair, leading to tangles and potential discoloration. Whenever possible, keep your hair up and avoid getting it wet.
If you plan to swim in a pool, hot tub, lake, or ocean, make sure to thoroughly wet your hair first and coat it with conditioner or serum to protect it from harsh chemicals and minerals. This helps prevent discoloration that can’t be reversed.
Also, be mindful of sunscreen near your extensions, some formulas can cause a rose or orange tint that’s difficult to remove. We’re happy to recommend sunscreen brands that are safe for extensions!
